Mixing Hard & Soft Pieces

One of my favorite trends to see is the mixing of hard and soft. If you're unfamiliar with this concept, it's basically the idea of categorizing an item in your closet and based on it's material/texture, it can be classified as a hard or soft piece.

Examples of hard items would be things like leather or metals, while soft items would be cozy knits, cottons and suede. Another similar trend is the mixing of feminine pieces with more tailored pieces. It's all about striking a balance and mixing these very different textiles and styles to create the perfect look!

One of my favorite ways of doing this is by pairing a leather (or faux leather) jacket or vest with something super feminine like a dress or skirt. There's a nice balance found between the mixing of styles and textures like this that always make a look seem a bit more fashionable but still very polished.

Outfit Details: Jacket (similar) here & here // Skirt (similar) here & here // White Top // Necklace (cheaper version here) // Booties (similar pair here)

These are all items I've had in my closet for a while now but I did a little mix and matching to create a new look that is on trend and still very much my style. This jacket is one of the best purchases I've ever made, and while it's a couple seasons old and no longer being sold at Anthro, I still wear it probably more than anything else in my closet during the fall/winter months. I found a couple similar styles here for y'all, don't worry!

I love how the combination of my go-to jacket with a basic white cotton shirt and this easy little skirt came together! PS - you'll also be seeing these Lucky Brand booties on repeat the next few months as they're my favorite pair... a purchase from last year!
