Favorite Things: 2017 Edition

Can you believe 2017 is almost over? I don't know about yall, but I am so ready for a new year and fresh start. While I'm looking ahead to 2018 with much anticipation and excitement, I wanted to do a little recap of 2017 and share some of my favorite things.

First and foremost, starting this blog earlier this year was definitely one of my 2017 highlights! It has been such a whirlwind getting into the blogging world and I've so enjoyed creating content for yall and learning SO much along the way. So thank you for sticking it out with me and for all the love and support this year. It has been so humbling and exciting to grow this blog and it just wouldn't be possible without YOU!

I want to share with yall a combination of favorite purchases and products plus a few "life" favorites from 2017, too. :) Let's get to it!

Boat Neck Tunic Sweater from Old Navy

This sweater is one of the most recent additions to my wardrobe (from my sister, actually) and I can already tell I'll be wearing it almost daily! Definitely going to need in multiple colors ASAP! Love how it's long enough to wear with leggings.

amj free people dress.jpg

Free People Perfectly Victorian Minidress

We've talked about this dress a billion times since the NSale back in July, so it's no surprise it lands on this list! I wore this dress all through summer and fall. The print was so fun and the cut is super flattering. A fav from 2017 for sure.

Hinge Button Front Dress

Another favorite dress purchased during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I've come to LOVE this brand (found at Nordstrom) and adore this drop waist dress. I've worn this one with leggings and tall boots into the colder temps and love it just as much!

Wine Skater Dress and Black Maxi Dress from Tobi

This year I was able to collaborate with Tobi for the first time and had the privilege of taking these two dresses on our trip to Hawaii. They were definitely two of my most talked about looks from our trip and I couldn't love either of them more. Highly recommend if you're heading on a cruise/beach vaca anytime soon!

amj kut jeans.jpg

Kut from the Kloth Straight Leg Jeans

I know I can't be the only one who hates shopping for jeans... right!? Well lo and behold, I found a pair that I actually like to wear and feel pretty good in. That's a huge win. I love the distressed knee and the raw hemline, which was so "in" this year. Oh, and what about that price tag...!

amj jcrew parka.jpg

J.Crew Chateau Parka

This coat has been on my wish list for probably a year and a half now... I finally got it for Christmas this year and it completely lives up to the hype! The color is PERFECTION and the wool is SO warm. I can't wait to take this baby to Utah with me next month.

amj madewell tote.jpg

Madewell Medium Transport Tote (can also purchase here)

This was hands down my most used handbag of the entire year. I have told SO many people about it and have since gotten two more Madewell bags... this one came for Christmas and I am in love with the drawstring top and color!

amj calpak luggage.jpg

Calpak Luggage Set

Another item that I had been admiring from afar for many months before I owned it was this luggage set. I got it for my birthday in July and have used both bags several times since. The white marble is SO pretty and feminine.

amj caseapp skin.jpg

Marble Computer Skin from CaseApp

Speaking of pretty white marble... I partnered with CaseApp earlier this year and they sent me this gorgeous skin for my Macbook. I promise I'm not kidding when I say that I've been approached by numerous people while traveling or working at coffee shops wondering where this beauty came from!

Topshop Pompom Beanie

I got this adorable beanie for Christmas and I'm pretty sure I've worn it every day since. Seriously. I'm a hat lover and since we've been experiencing highs in the teens this week, this cutie has become my new best friend! :)

Sorel Joan of Artic Boots

Hands down the coziest, warmest and most fashionable snow boots I've ever come across. I love them so much, I got them in two colors. The price tag is a little steep compared to things I usually share, but I promise they're so worth it. Again, I cannot wait to take these with me to Utah in January. They will be perfect!

amj 2017 makeup.jpg

When it comes to makeup I'm kind of in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp... I've used the same foundation and powder since I was in college, for reference. But this year, as I was trying to be a good blogger and test out products that were being raved about, I came across a few new things that are now a part of my makeup arsenal.

Four new makeup products from 2017 I'm loving are Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder, Nars Blush in "Orgasm", Anastasia Beverly Hills Lipstick in "Heathers" and L'ORÉAL's Telescopic Carbon Black Mascara.

I also converted to a T3 Micro curling iron and, so far, I'm loving it. Full report and review to come after using it for a while longer! :) This is the base you need and this is the barrel I have!

I got to travel A TON this year, both for pleasure and tagging along on Michael's work trips. Some of my favorite trips were to Denver to get certified as a Pure Barre instructor, Sundance, Utah in January and July; Charleston, SC (the dreamiest city ever; see my post on our trip here); Detroit, Minneapolis, Kansas City, and Nashville.

amj hawaii.jpg

The best trip of 2017 (and honestly, the best moment of 2017) was our incredible trip to Maui, Hawaii. As many of you know, Michael and I suffered two really awful losses this year and this trip was the perfect opportunity to get away, rest, heal and be together. There aren't words to describe what our trip to Hawaii actually meant to us, but it was without question unforgettable.

Another highlight of 2017 was becoming an aunt to our precious little niece Annie. It's been so fun to watch her grow over the last seven months and we are undoubtedly the proudest and most in love aunt and uncle you ever did meet. ;)

We also went to a lot of great concerts and shows this year! Tim & Faith (one of my favorite shows ever), Alan Jackson, Clint Black, Jerry Seinfeld, The Bodyguard, The King and I, and NEEDTOBREATHE to name a few. We're already looking forward to some exciting shows on our 2018 calendar... Shania Twain and seeing Hamilton are at the top of my list so far!

Finally, I want to share some favorite reads of 2017. I love to read and have set goals for myself the last two years to read [at least] a book a month. Below are my ten favorite books I read this year:

Present Over Perfect

My Heart

Hope Heals

Necessary Endings

Before the Fall

In the President's Secret Service

Wild and Free

Big Little Lies

The Husband's Secret

Hallelujah Anyway

As we wrap up the year with this final weekend of 2017, I would love to hear what some of YOUR favorite purchases or moments were, too. Leave me a comment down below! And be sure to stay tuned to Instagram next week, as a very fun giveaway will be happening to ring in the New Year...
